PRODUCTION AND ROLES
Makers on the Tide was produced by Mick Flaaen, Michael Sullivan, and Pat Chapman. Working with the Willits family, along with the Tacoma Public Library, Seaport Maritime Museum, and the Washington State History Museum the producers were granted access to the brothers' longtime factory on Day Island where the artifacts, tools, plans, and materials sat in a frozen time capsule. The story was written by Michael Sullivan and Mick Flaaen. The restoration of a 1922 Willits canoe was engineered by Pat Chapman of McFarland Lake Canoe Co.
Production began in October of 2022. The film was photographed by Mick Flaaen. And editing was completed by Mick Flaaen and Michael Sullivan in October of 2024. The film had its debut screening at the Washington State History Museum as part of the fall exhibit, MAKERS OF THE TIDE in November 2024
